MOTstory is run by MHAFS Ltd. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or part of DVSA, DVLA or GOV.UK. The official free MOT history service is at gov.uk/check-mot-history.

Data and accuracy

MOT records are supplied by DVSA under the Open Government Licence v3.0. We show them as received and may hold a copy for up to 24 hours before refreshing. Records can contain errors made at the time of testing. Summaries, charts and flags on this site are our own analysis and are provided as guidance only.

An MOT history is not a full vehicle history check. It does not show outstanding finance, insurance write-offs, theft records or ownership. Always inspect a vehicle, check its documents and consider an independent inspection before buying.

Acceptable use

You may use MOTstory for personal and business lookups. You must not use automated tools to make bulk requests, copy the service, or try to get around rate limits. We may block traffic that does.

Liability

The service is provided “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for decisions made using information on this site. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
