About MOTstory

MOTstory is an independent MOT history checker run by MHAFS Ltd, a company registered in the UK. We are not part of, or endorsed by, the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), the DVLA or GOV.UK.

Where the data comes from

Vehicle and MOT test records come from the DVSA MOT History API. We are an approved user of the API and use the data under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Each result shows when it was retrieved. We keep a copy for up to 24 hours before fetching it again, so a test completed today may take a day to appear.

What we add

• A summary of status, expiry, number of fails and advisories, and latest mileage.
• A mileage chart that converts kilometres to miles and highlights any reading lower than the one before.
• Grouping of advisories and defects that appear at tests in more than one year.

These summaries are our own analysis of DVSA records. They are indicators to help you ask the right questions, not findings of fact about a vehicle.
