• Price: the maximum fee is £54.85 for a car, £29.65 for a motorcycle and £58.60 for a class 7 van. Many Sale garages charge less, so ask when you book.
• Vehicle class: make sure the centre tests your class of vehicle. The badges above show which classes each centre is approved for.
• If it fails: leaving the vehicle for repair usually means a free partial retest within 10 working days. See our failed MOT guide.
• Before the test: check lights, tyres, wipers, washer fluid and warning lights. They cause many avoidable fails.
